Humanitarian context

The complex and volatile crisis in Burkina Faso continues to deteriorate rapidly and severely. The country is among the 10 poorest in the world.

The internal conflict has intensified, spreading throughout all regions of the country. Armed violence has caused massive population displacements and has led to a significant increase in the number of displaced persons in 2022, with more than 1,579,976 people, including women, men, girls and boys, within the country.

In addition, the country is experiencing an unprecedented food crisis and a significant deterioration in access to water and essential social services. The most affected provinces suffer from a high rate of acute undernutrition, exceeding 10%. At least 390,000 children under five years of age suffer from acute undernutrition throughout the country.

Our activity

Action Against Hunger provides essential humanitarian assistance, including basic necessities, water, sanitation and hygiene, as well as food, for both the displaced population and those remaining in their communities. It also provides primary health and nutrition care through mobile clinics, supporting health centres. In addition, it provides psychological aid, with positive mental health outcomes for 98% of beneficiaries.
